Not Over Yet - Axioms of Life Award winner

Not Over Yet
Axioms of Life
by Dana Koch at 21 December 2017, 3:16 PM

NOT OVER Yet released debut album “Axioms of Life” in early November. NOT OVER YET is a melodic hard rock experimental band dabbling with elements of metal, progressivism, blues, and can even pull off a lighter, happier sound. The band is comprised of siblings Guilia and Luca Cerardi on rhythm guitar and drums and Luigi Stefanini on bass. The album features collaborations from a number of artists including Blaze Bayley, Chris Poland (Megadeth), and Luca Princiotta (Doro Pesch) to name a few. “Axioms of Life” is a well crafted album playing host to a variety of style and sound.

Crazy Tide”, probably my person favorite on the album, starts with an atmospheric synth intro accompanied by a guitar. The song kicks up with a contagious beat. The palm muted sections of the song play very well and added in my mind a very interesting element. The vocals are powerful and epic. With it's pulsing energy, the song made me feel amped up and ready to go out and run a few miles. “You and I” starts as a melancholy ballad seeping raw emotion. The song emits a sense of yearning. The slow walking drum beat toward the middle is a melancholy heart beating. The song picks up more momentum with a faster, progressive section that gives a different flavor of NOT OVER YET. The song is well written, but the harmonizing vocals seemed off to me and the cymbal was too loud and bordering on disruptive.

“Some Blues” has an interesting mellow, bluesy feel as described by its title. The layered, subdued guitar riffs envelope as though submerging into a pool of cool water. If there was any doubt, NOT OVER YET prove their versatile style again with this smooth jam. The last track on the album took me by surprise. For a second I thought I was listening to an add on YouTube. “Let’s Stay Together” is light, happy, and strays completely from the rest of the album. There is a bouncy bass line and cheerful tone.
