Nothing Personal – Lights

Nothing Personal
Lights
by Matan "Shouter" Yaniv at 11 May 2015, 8:45 PM

NOTHING PERSONAL is a Post Hardcore band that coming straight from Zielona Góra, Poland. The band formed in the early 2012, and since then toured all over the country and shared stages with bands such as BEING AS AN OCEAN and many more. But only in the late 2014 the band finally released their very first EP which called "Lights".

The EP opens with "Don’t Pray For Me". In this song I already understood the melodic and dramatic twist that the band is doing with the genre, something that reminded me of the late songs of BRING ME THE HORIZON. I love the idea of that twist, I think it's very good that the band is in their first EP and already got their own sound, which is something that some bands don’t have even in their second album. However, this specific song suffers from lack of a changing point. The atmosphere of the song remains the same and there is no highlight or something different that is happening after the first minute.

"What Have I Done?" is better than the first track, it's much more powerful and extremely song. Still, the song remains in the same atmosphere in all of the song's 3 minutes and although there is a highlight point, the band created a song that it's hard to love. The best song in the EP for my opinion is "Lights". It’s a song that doesn't feel boring for a second and if the other songs were remaining in the same atmosphere all long, than this one has many atmospheres. Those things make the song to be very fun and very easy to love.

The last song in the EP is "Misgivings", the most dramatic song in the album and for a second even reminded me the epic sound of WHILE SHES SLEEPS. It’s a nice song, the creativity of the band is at their height. But still the problem is that the band doing some things repeatedly and they don’t changing things in the songs. In the bottom line, I'm not saying it's amazing, I'm not saying it's not good, it’s a very nice EP for the start. The band has a vision for how to do very original songs, which is very special for a debut EP, but they need more time to know how to do it with also keeping song diversity.

If they will not be afraid to go 'all the way in' with the songs, they can do one of the most creative debut albums of the genre.
