Evolvent - Whatever Happens

Whatever Happens
by Katarzyna Zakolska at 06 April 2015, 8:18 AM

EVOLVENT is a female-fronted Melodic Symphonic Metal band from Paris, France. The band was formed in 2004 and has released the following albums and EPs: “Spiritual Confession” in 2008, “Delusion” in 2011, “Under the Rain” in 2013, “Human Instinct” in 2014 and are now giving us “Whatever Happens” on 2nd March 2015.

“Dawn” is a gentle opener with violins and perfectly composed Symphonic elements. The single track “Love Doesn't Love Me” is my favourite on this album where piano opens it in calm style and then moves to stronger riffs, keys and Symphonic elements. Heavier riffs and melodic singing in NIGHTWISH style is in “Over Seasons & Time”.

“We Are” is an interesting track, because it is opened by violins and choir in a CORVUS CORAX-esque style, then utilizing some nice working bass, stronger guitars and more duo vocal work. This is catchy track with Symphonic elements in the background. The title track “Whatever Happens” is opened by calmer sounds and features some heavenly Operatic singing from Emma Elvaston along with a strong piano track.

“Siempre” is a brilliant ballad with calmer violins and some wonderful vocal work. The marching drums together with heavier riffs on “Hurricane” make it one of the heavier tracks on the album.

Worth to listen are also “Embrace” with progressive change rate and melodic chorus, calmer ballad “Our Fate“ playing & singing in perfectly way and “Win or Die” with clear energetic rhythmical section & stronger riffs and melodic refrain singing in Opera style by female vocalist.

Summing up, EVOLVENT play some really interesting and nicely performed music. Surely fans of female-fronted bands and Melodic/Symphonic Metal will be in seventh heaven listening to this album, and I am very happy that I’ve had the opportunity to listen this excellent album. Every song is well-worked and the vocal works really shine. Well recommended!
