Organ - Organ (7'' EP) (CD)

Organ (7'' EP)
by Dimitris Karametros at 02 November 2009, 10:51 AM

First of all this is a review of a post/avant-garde Metal band and does not abide to the regular norms generally seen in Heavy Metal, so if this is not your thing and you do not feel adventurous in dabbling with something like the afore mentioned genre please stop here. All the others bear with me because I might sound a little strange.

There are 3 tracks in this 7 EP from ORGAN and each and everyone is an example of innovation, experimentation and the use of non-standard sounds and instruments. There are no vocal parts except samples from possible a movie in the first track. The sound is unconventional in a way that crosses borders and combines music to create a psychedelic surrealistic, untraditional form of Metal. Bands that come in mind are VOIVOD and VED BUENS ENDE but also GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR as ORGAN utilizes the same short movements and wide volume ranges.
Although the sound is controlled there is a disregard for pitch, duration and volume which is intentional but does not tire the listener with over ado experimentations that exist to impress. There is humbleness in the sound hidden within the glissando of the guitars and the samples created to augment the attempt to surrealism. All the above lead to the creation of an atmospheric voyage that the images derived from it are interpreted uniquely by the individual.
Personally I see burning crosses raised but let's keep in mind that ORGAN does not attempt to combine musical styles, it tries to evolve. Definitely only for those that wish to experiment musically and to fans of the genre.
