Places around the Sun - Places around the Sun

Places around the Sun

As everyone knows, Metal is a subgenre of Rock. And Rock has an infinite range of musical possibilities, so everybody can find something that’ll like (or not) on Rock ‘n’ Roll. And it’s not something strange to deal with a band like PLACES AROUND THE SUN, from Portugal. But to deal with “Places Around the Sun”, their latest release, an ample and open-minded insight is needed. They’re labeled as Alternative Rock (and such label is extremely ample, you all known), so influences from SANTANA, OASIS, THE BEATLES and many more can be heard on their musical work. It’s melodic, hooking and based on melodies that are easy to assimilate. Their music is focused on good technical level, without being something that reeks to self-indulgence, and the melodic energy that can hook those who aren’t so radical.

The sound quality, obviously, is almost perfect, because such musical work needs something clean and with defined instrumental tunes to allow the quartet to express its ideas on a musical form. But it bears that essential rough touch that Rock bands must bear, in any genre you can think of. The band does a good and homogeneous musical work, but the best ones are “Lost I Am Found” (an accessible song, with very good Latin groove coming from bass guitar and guitars, and a catchy chorus), “The Wanted One” (again a Latin groove can be detected on the song’s melodies, but where bass guitar and drums are really good), “Bury It” (a tougher song, but still with good melodies, and very good vocals and backing vocals), “Embracer” (where some good technical parts can be heard due the rhythms of drums), “Down the Road” (where influences from Punk Rock and Post Punk are mixed with good accessible melodies), and “Eight” are the best ones for a first time on their music.

“Places Around the Sun” shows that PLACES AROUND THE SUN has a lot of to offer. So, patrícios de Além-Mar, eu os saúdo e quero ouvir mais de seu trabalho.
