It was some months ago when I had the chance to watch this band performing live. It was the first time I saw them live and the fact that it was the band's first important live appearance, since they were supporting HERMANO, was definitely a good reason for the band to get on stage and tear the place apart. And so they did, making me ask for a release by the band's members. When I was talking to the band's drummer, he told me that they were recording their album and they were in talks with several labels.
Just as Serapheim said, PLANET OF ZEUS managed to sign a contract with the UK based Copro Records/Casket Music to release their first ever full-length album. The Greek however-you-wanna-call-it act will be releasing its debut album in April 21 (a date not so good for the Greek people, you know what I mean) and I believe that many people will already be impatient to get their hands on it.
PLANET OF ZEUS is a Heavy Rock/Stoner outfit that is based mostly on groove, nice guitar melodies, a solid as a rock rhythm section and the singer's whiskey soaked harsh vocals. Their sound is something like a bastard child of bands like DOWN, CLUTCH and FIREBALL MINISTRY, while they also reminded me of Iommi's solo albums. Especially their smoother moments are really close to the music BLACK SABBATH's riff machine writes. Such bands are being underestimated, but I assure you that if you listen to fucking awesome tunes like Supernothing and Woke Up Dead you will bang your fucking head like a lunatic. The two songs I just mentioned are a great sample of what the band can do in mid tempo groovy moments as well as fast and heavy outbreaks.
The band is proudly raising its middle finger to the Metal/Rock scene showing that many great stuff are about to follow. Since they managed to get out of the Greek discography and find a home away from here, because we all know that Greece always destroyed its own children, they have to work hard and try to achieve all of their goals. Get this really good album, drink a bottle of the always friendly Uncle Jack and enjoy these potheads.
