Pretty Maids - Louder Than Ever Award winner

Pretty Maids
Louder Than Ever
by Katarzyna Zakolska at 20 March 2014, 6:00 PM

PRETTY MAIDS is a melodic Heavy Metal band from Denmark, one of the country’s giants. They have been there since 1982 and have released a vast number of albums, last year released album called “Motherland” and on 21st March 2014 will be available “Louder Than Ever”.  This album consists of four new tracks and others are re-new recordings of songs between 1996 – 2006.

“Deranged”, one of the newer tracks, is charged filled with energy and passion within the riffs, displaying the greatness of the band’s catchy sounds and charm, wonderful solo and a fine synergy between the guitar riffs and the overflowing keyboards. “Nuclear Boomerang”, another fresh one, continues the massiveness of the band’s wall of sound, powerful Heavy Metal with a fine measure of tunefulness. “Playing God“, an earlier classic, emerged SAXON or IRON MAIDEN in my thought pattern, yet it is also easy to comprehend PRETTY MAIDS’ landmark on it, amazing guitar solo had me with Goosebumps and the touchy keys made this one my favourite track on the album. “Virtual Brutality”, a modern cracker, let’s out an amazing chorus with several HELLOWEEN influences and even oriental echoes that made this new version heavier. Ronnie Atkins has a perfect voice, strong, clear yet also gentle in the nick of time. His voice is surreal, and larger than life on “With These Eyes”, simply penetrating, the melodic chorus with keyboards and the violins left me no choice but to enjoy this tune. “Wake Up to the Real World” shared several DOKKEN and GOTTHARD occurrences, pretty good. The new “Tortured Spirit” slammed with fury in its new clothes while the new commercial radio hit ballad “My Soul to Take” and the renewed kick-ass of “He Who Never Lived” enhanced the magic of the band’s grandeur.

PRETTY MAIDS reminded why they are great, displaying old platter with new stuff to chew on. As always every track is a little masterpiece, each piece of sound is well worked. Surely everyone who is a fan of PRETTY MAIDS and enjoys melodic Heavy Metal will see himself buying this release.
