Primitai – Violence Of The Skies Award winner

Primitai
Violence Of The Skies
by Mike McMahan at 05 March 2021, 4:41 PM

Let the world be put on notice. As of March 26th, 2021, PRIMITAI’S sixth album release, “Violence Of The Skies”, is official. There it is, you have been warned; and while my warning may fall on deaf ears outside the world of Heavy Metal music, any fan of the genre should pay heed. This is one you will want to get behind.

The record itself is a ten-song concept (with two featured bonus tracks on the CD), concerned with “escaping the end of the world, seeking new victories and facing down unknown dangers” (taken from the bands release promo). It is an epic and stellar undertaking, filled with mind-bending musical turns and lyrical depth. There are also several guest appearances on the album; of note, Paul Quinn of SAXON takes a great guitar solo on the track “Put To The Sword”.

“Stars Are My Guide” opens the festivities with a definitive bang, with an airy introduction giving way to an absolutely thunderous opening verse. The song works wonderfully to set the mood for what is to come. It is multi-faceted in its delivery and filled with virtuosic musicianship from every member of the band. Of particular note for me were the solos of Bilic and Giron, as they are quick, melodic and 100% on point. There is an old school feel wrapped in this modern sounding release; with hints of IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST, amongst other influences, interwoven in the mix.

The highlights here are early…and often…throughout this record. It took me a couple of listens to fully comprehend just how good it truly is; but it will now be in constant rotation for me. It is undoubtedly one of the finest works I have heard in a very long time, and an early contender for my end of year “top ten” list. As I have stated, take heed…and RUN to this record.
