Pythia – Shadows Of A Broken Past Award winner

Shadows Of A Broken Past
by Katarzyna Zakolska at 10 January 2015, 12:08 PM

PYTHIA is a female Symphonic Metal band from London in United Kingdom. They were formed in 2007 and released albums: “Beneath the Veiled Embrace” in 2009, “The Serpent's Curse” in 2012 and “Shadows of a Broken Past” on December 8th 2014.

My favourite track: “War Games”, where Power Metal drums with a lot of fresh energy, similar to RHAPSODY OF FIRE, stronger guitars and fine choir in the chorus. Very catchy song sung beautifully by Emily Alice Ovenden, so melodic, impressive guitar solo together with keys! For me “The Highwayman” sounds like a total hit! Just killer track! Gentle opener with nice epic guitars and very melodic sounds! The chorus is awe-inspiring with high melodic, operating singing. NIGHTWISH influences are obvious, with amazing guitars, great rhythmical section, wonderful female vocals and even Folkish echoes.

Heavy guitars, Symphonic elements with pulp of drums and an ever-so-catchy, gentle voice in singing are found in the melodic “Moon on the Mountain” - perfection in work! Opener track “The King's Ruin” is a really nice a Symphonic track with heavy riffs, massive pulp of drums, perfect operatic vocals, great guitar work – it is just like a mix of Symphony (NIGHTWISH) with catchy sounds. Massive riffs together with gentle keys in the background and catchy energetic chorus are in “Bring Me Home”, and what an impressive atmosphere, goose-bumps guitar solo & gorgeous singing in “Yellow Rose” with fantastic drums, dual-vocals make for some truly, epic-sounding Metal.

In “The Key”, even a little SEPULTURA can be heard in the drums and aggressive riffs, then Power Metal sounds totally killer together with Opera vocals. Keys with amazing heavier guitars and catchy chorus is in very memorable “Sword of Destiny” together with an impressive, huge guitar solo! Fine gentle singing together with great stronger guitars in “Broken Paradise” sounds stunning and the guitars add a ballad-like overtune. Gentle opener keys, guitars in lower and stronger style are in “Your Eternity” where refrain is catchy, keys are brilliant and machine drums sounds interesting with the operatic vocal, also worth to mention that here is again awesome guitar solo!

Third album of PYTHIA is brilliant -  album is on a high level and inside are power, energy and many, wonderful melodies! Their music shows experience of musicians in Symphonic Metal with modern echoes with Power Metal and Gothic elements. Perfect production and fantastic compositions surely for long time stay in your mind! Highly recommended to every Symphonic Metal fan. I couldn't stop to listen these beautiful songs on because they are so catchy with heaviness too. This fresh album of British Metallers is totally perfect! You must have their new CD in your collection!
