Qoph - Freaks

by Eldad "Blacknasa" Stainbook at 21 February 2013, 12:28 PM

QOPH started back in the 1990's as one of the pioneers of the Stoner Rock scene in Sweden. “Freaks” is the third release of theirs presenting the Swedish psychedelic Rock band via Transubstans Records.

I think that my first problem is that I'm not a big fan of Progressive Rock or Psychedelic Rock for that matter. My second problem is that my editor had me going that this band is Stoner, and for my surprise and astonishment they aren’t.

Nevertheless I did a switch in my head and started to listen to the album, it seems that upfront it can be heard that the album fuses many styles into a merging of Rock meets various of styles, yes many directions, even Reggae.

It does seem that these guys are very talented however for me it was a little hard to swallow the mix that they pursued. However, I can say that it’s enjoyable though finding it hard to swallow, but not hard to digest.

And for the best songs for me were “Hearts & Sorrows” with a Stoner vibe and gloomy guitars, surprisingly “Seconds & Minutes” did move me with that 70s Psychedelic groove.

Overall, it is nice album for Metal fans and a probably good album for Progressive Rock fans.
