Rabid Bitch Of The North - Green Eyes

Rabid Bitch Of The North
Green Eyes

Giving it both barrels from the first note and firing their brand of old school heavy metal straight out of the speakers like a shotgun blast to the skull, Belfast trio RABID BITCH OF THE NORTH aren’t exactly the kind of band that you’d take home to meet your parents. Coupling an 80’s guitar sound with shrill, Judas Priest-like vocals, single ‘Green Eyes’ has beautifully maniacal blend of balls to the wall metal and intricate riffing that sounds like a hurricane of musical destruction.

Some of these aforementioned riffs wouldn’t sound out of place on Metallica’s ‘Kill Em’ All’, and while this single (along with the accompanying ‘You’re Misery’) ventures down a well-trodden path  as opposed to carving one for itself, there’s a lot within these two tracks to suggest that this talented three-piece will be ones to keep a close eye on. If you like a good ol’ head bang, and I presume that if you’re reading this then that’s a bit of a given, you could do a hell of a lot worse than this.

If you’re of an overly critical disposition then it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to say that the music on display here is rather one dimensional, with some basic song structures hiding behind the bells and whistles of the shrieks and solos. That said, it is pretty difficult to hold this against them seeing as there’s only around 9 and a half minutes of music on offer. The proof will be in the pudding on the bands’ upcoming full-length, as a full record with this little variation could tire very quickly indeed. Then again, when Rabid Bitch are firing on full cylinders it’s hard not to be completely captivated and swept up in the metal madness being pumped into your veins.

While it’s not faultless, ‘Green Eyes’ is certainly an impressively strong statement of intent from a band who won’t rest until they’ve taken the Irish rock scene, maybe even the world, by storm.
