Raging Dead - Born in Rage

Raging Dead
Born in Rage
by Dave “That Metal Guy” Campbell at 21 August 2015, 5:36 PM

RAGING DEAD is a Horror Punk band based out of Cremona, Italy. This is the band’s debut EP, and contains six tracks. “Awakening of the Damned” has a slow build-in, setting the tone for the evil that is to come, complete with spoken work and the sound of a beating heart that quickens its pace and then abruptly ends. “Scratch Me” wastes no time coming straight for your soul. It’s an upbeat paced song which isn’t unusual in the genre. The main riff and overall sound hints at riding somewhere between the Punk and Metal genre. The vocals are higher pitched and also lie somewhere between the clean style and the vocals fry. At times, I hear an influence from some of the 80’s pop Metal bands like FASTER PUSSYCAT and the like…that raw, sleazy kind of sound. “Anathema” starts with a bit of suspense and some dissonant guitar work. The pacing is similar and there is a raucous sound when the chorus rolls around…a sort of all out-attack of vocals and instrumentation. The pace and rhythm in “Redemption” is again pretty similar to previous tracks, but the riff has more of a stronger presence in the Punk style of the band. “Nightstalker” is a little more eerie sounding, and the vocals are particularly angst ridden. They also lay on another extended chorus which really accentuates the melody I believe. Closing the album is the song “Vengeance.” This track is a bit more cold and sterile sounding, allowing the evil to shine through. Overall, I find the EP promising and the style interesting. I don’t think there is any doubt that you can’t come away from the listening experience not knowing their core sound. But from here I think the band can look into more expansion of their sound.
