Although I'm not used to find lyrics which are taken from the fantasy world in a Heavy Metal Band like REAPER because most of the Heavy Metal bands I know won't use this concept, I actually liked it.
So it's really easy to realize that REAPER is a little bit of IRON MAIDEN and a little bit of JUDAS PRIEST and even TWISTED SISTER but the biggest problem with “Fairies Return”'s credibility. Thomas Benneke, the band's former vocalist on the album and from my point of view- the story teller, didn't succeed to believe the story line. When I listen to an album, any album, I need to believe the story line, rather it is a fantasy or not.
The Guitar riffs and solos were brilliant because of the similarity to IRON MAIDEN's riffs. The drumming work was great as well considering all the hard work the band members put in “Fairies Return”'s concept. I was actually more convinced by the guitar solos (the décor) than from the vocal parts (The story teller).
In conclusion, REAPER's “Fairies Return” is a reminder of a point of view looking at a Heavy Metal band but credibility is too important no matter what concept or story line are been used.
