Rebel Beat – Steel Dust

Rebel Beat
Steel Dust
by Bruno Diniz at 05 July 2017, 5:44 PM

The Russian band REBEL BEAT presents to the public its debut album entitled "Steel Dust". The quintet is formed by Yaroslav Vozvyshaev (vocals), Stas Opitin (guitar), Sergey Baybakov (guitar), Vlad Voloshko (drums), Slava Parshin (bass brings) a very connected sound to the nineties bands like LINKIN PARK, LIMP BIZKIT and some musicality also like NICKELBACK. Production and mixing are a bit precarious, especially in the connection between electronic elements and the instruments: very careless, which happens in much time of the work. "I'm the Law" is the first song, and although it does not excite much, it is one of the best of the album. It brings in addition to heavy guitars, a great influence of hip hop combined with a pleasant vocal. "Swinging Around" slows down a bit, but maintains the same construction. The beginning and chorus of "One Man" reminded me a lot of the boys bands of the nineties.

"Red Rock" brings a sound exactly like RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, especially on their album “Californication”. At this point of the album each change of rhythm comes with the thought that I have heard something very similar before, which is definitely not good and shows lack of creativity and originality of the band. The construction of the songs will only change in the seventh track "Away", a better built track, with a slower beat and good combinations between the vocals. In addition the album is finished with two live songs “Dead President” and “Rebel Beat”, with emphasis on music that gives the name of the band. It is difficult for me to understand the reason for doing something very similar to things that were done thirty years ago. The live songs show that the band has certain technique and tuning. But the creative and original side must certainly be worked out.
