Redline - Vice

by Katarzyna Zakolska at 10 December 2012, 7:01 PM

REDLINE is a Hard Rock band from Birmingham (United Kingdom). It is worth to add that Birmingham is the city where Heavy Metal bands as BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST and many more began their Metallic journey. REDLINE formed in 2006, debuting with “Ignition” in 2007, and now releasing “Vice”.REDLINE presents a fusion of Hard Rock mixed with Heavy Metal under a modern production.

In opening song “Battle Cry” you will find elements of classic Metal riffs al’a IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST. Within “No Limits” there is a fine insertion of Power Metal alongside the smooth Hard Rock feel. Runaway tempo and great guitar riffs make the music very energetic along with memorable melodic catchphrases that will dig in your brain. There is a similarity to SCORPIONS and SAXON. REDLINE play on “No Limits” something in the alleyway of NWOBHM. “Cold Silence”, the album’s power ballad, Jimmy Lea (SLADE) contributed violin and cello parts and Pete Lakin (ex-DOUBLE CROSS / FATEMAKER) subsidized the haunting piano arrangement. The first two minutes are calm with a piano under a neat vocal line of Kez Taylorand suddenly followed an explosion caused by the hard sound of guitars mixed with powerful rhythmic section. Great lead smacks by Ade Yeomans. The melodic state of mind on this one reminded me of THE POODLES’s“Cuts Like A Knife”.

I very much like the song “King Of The Mountain” which sounds like a classic Metal anthem. You can notice the style in the vein of BLACK SABBATH, DIO, OZZY OSBOURNE and ZAKK WYLDE's, merely when it comes to guitar. Crushing guitar riffs are fantastic. Everything is played dynamically, with momentum, with passion and with energy. Here you can find also elements of motorcycle Rock of band SAXON. Another track which is a highlight for me and it is called "Twisting The Knife". Great guitar riffs with rhythmical section and a high flying solo make this song distinctive compared to the others. Nothing can seem to beat Taylor’s singing that is very energetic displaying his lines as sort of prayers. The lyrics are clear and distributed with passion so you can easily comprehend what Taylor wished to express. This is potential hit in my bill! I liked also the nice bass in “Black Sky”. This thoughtful song characterized melodic and a strong rhythm section. Steve Hill (Bass) playing with Mark Biddiscombe (Drums) and fit very well with a nice sound of guitar playing by Steve Petty. Guitar riffs are strong and low tuned, musically well done.

Elements of country and blues are evident on “High Price To Pay”. Bass working pretty tight with the drums, very rocky song, reminded me tracks of WHITESNAKE and TESLA. Very melodic and refined song makes in climate Hard Rock of the 80s with a modern touch is “Edge Of Falling” which its intro resembled me of QUEEN’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. On the melodic “Some Kinda Mean ” REDLINE play their idols. The last song this album "We Came To Rock" is a very dynamic and energetic song. Surely a perfect track to play live with a sing-along chorus together with fans.

Summing up, REDLINE band play Hard Rock mixed with Heavy Metal. REDLINE plays music according to their influences, but their songs are well played with hard riffs, nice rhythmical section, dynamic and passion mixed with new energy. “Vice” is a necessary album for fans of JUDAS PRIEST, SAXON, BLACK SABBATH, WHITESNAKE, Y&T, UFO, SCORPIONS and IRON MAIDEN.Everyone who loves these kinds of bands, surely will come to admire REDLINE too.
