Rejection - Subject 43 Award winner

Subject 43
by Bex "Hardcore" Tasker at 16 December 2013, 4:58 PM

REJECTION are a Metalcore band who formed in Greece in 2004. The group are influenced by Metal legends such as SLIPKNOT, SEPULTURA and MUDVAYNE, and the release of their second album “Subject 43” in April 2013 was sure to attract the attention of Metal fans worldwide. The band consists of the talents of Vlassis on vocals, Nick_A on guitars, Dimitris on bass and finally Nontas on drums.  Give them a listen, you won’t regret it.

The opening track of this song, “Intro”, is a battle between the static sound of an old TV, and the music of the band. The result is haunting, and would be an appropriate feature of a horror movie. The following track highlights that Metal was the victor of the war, illustrated through the heavy drums, growls and guitars of “Subject 43”. The funky bass also shows the awesome power of Metal. The grooviness continues in track 3, “Going Insane”. The rhythm will get you headbanging, with catchy riffs and impressive drumming to match. “This Crumbing World of Ours (Life As A Slave)” kicks off with funky bass, and is soon joined by the drums and guitar. As the vocals come in, haunting whisperings by Vlassis, the guitars become temporarily melodic. This track also has a notably groovy rhythm, thanks to the breakdowns and catchy riffs.

Track 5 is another addictive one. “Fragments” is complete with deep growls, heavy guitars and drums that are in perfect synchrony, and a chorus of clean vocals. “Sanity” is a prime example of Vlassis’s diverse vocal abilities, and of the band’s impressive synchronicity. Track 7 highlights the Nick_A’s awesomely distorted guitars in the introduction, but they certainly aren’t the only attraction of “When Death Blooms”. Others include the rapid drumming of Nontas, and Vlassis’s impressive vocal range. The final track on the album, “Terminal”, is also the one and only soft song on it. The introduction consists of melodic guitars, which are eventually joined by slow drumming. The subtle bass also adds to the mellow nature of the track, which is entirely instrumental.

On “Subject 43”, REJECTION illustrate their supreme talents as individual musicians, but also their remarkable synchronicity as a band. A definite recommendation for a band to check out this year.
