Formed in 2011 on the ruins of
IMMORTAL RITES,
APOPHIS and
DAWN OF DREAMS, the German band
REVEL IN FLESH just released their second fruit of work entitled
"Manifested Darkness". The group has already made a good entry in the Metal World scene with an opus entitled
"Deathevokation", and left a good impression among the fans of Death Metal.
The SweDEATH Metal is the name that the members assigned to their musical style, and that's what I noticed as soon as I pressed play for the first time. An opening title that left me imagines a grandiose suite. And my instinct did not deceive me; in fact the two songs
"Dominate The Rotten" and
"Deathmarsh" have just reinforced my judgments. The very melodic leads and the super heavy rhythms are the main ingredients to Justify old school and melodic roots adopted. The rest of the route takes me through
"Manifested Darkness" and
"Torment in Fire", as it is marked with tempo changes. The song
"Operation Citadel" confirms all that, and with a clean end, sufficient to carry me very far.
"Warmaster" does not change much in the attitude of the album, with a very striking main riff, but
"Rotting in the Void" is a change in frequency, an intro and an end in piano, with a blackened hat in my opinion. The last song
"Twisted Mass of Burnt Decay" has not added a lot of things, and announces an end of the journey, which could be lot better.
On the other hand, I will not pass without talking about the very good production. In fact, the mastering of this album was done by
Dan Swanö the owner of
Unisound Studios, in Sweden, and it is not anyone. This producer was behind the sound of bands like
OPETH,
KATATONIA or
DARK FUNERAL to name a few. So that's the secret of this great work.
"Manifested Darkness" is an album that in my opinion is going to be a pleasure, especially for fans of good Death Metal.
