Rychus Syn - Deadly Syns

Rychus Syn
Deadly Syns
by Humberto Cervantes at 11 March 2014, 12:58 AM

RYCHUS SIN formed in 1983, released the “License to Kill” EP and their debut full-length “Rebirth”. This release, however, features a much more heavier guitar tone which most 80’s Thrash Metal bands use nowadays such as EXODUS, TESTAMENT, ONSLAUGHT, etc.  in comparison to the previous releases.

This is quite different than the two previous releases. Like mentioned, it features a sound orientation. “Deadly Syns” is more modern sounding but still gives a classic Metal indication as well.  Dan Reid’s vocals are bit harsher than before but still has it. There are times where the albums go a bit into the Thrash direction. This is far from being a terrible venture, yet I can’t really deem it as perfection.

The album starts out with a strange intro, which I can’t determine what it is exactly, then the riff barges comes in. I was quite surprised seeing a band listed as a Heavy / Speed Metal sounding like this. There are more elements of Heavy than Speed, with a modern sound to it. In my opinion, several of the songs are naturally BLACK SABBATH influenced, especially in the riffs, like “Sabbathon”, which is quite obvious I would say, a fine end for this stretch.

This album isn’t bad, yet it could have been better if it was more related to the band’s earlier classic Metal adherences.
