Sacrilegia - Sold Under Sin

Sacrilegia
Sold Under Sin
by Ricardo Casagrande at 07 December 2022, 5:56 AM

This black thrash metal duo hails from Dublin, Ireland and was formed in 2018. They commenced an unholy alliance with the label Invictus Productions, also out of Ireland, to put out a full length album titled The Triclavian Advent in 2019. They return in 2022 with a new four song EP called Sold Under Sin. The tracks are a little more lengthier than the work on their first release, but still inherits the bands aggressive and dark nature song writing. They are joined on stage by a third musician on bass Ciarán, who has been playing live with them since 2019.

The EP starts with the track “Cimmerian Dawn” and you can understand the trash element to their music right away. The vocals consist of the typical black metal screeching roar that is associated with old and new aged black metal. The tempo is fierce and fiery, mixed with mid-tempo pounding drums with a screeching solo that contributes to the track towards the end. “Reactionary Angel” starts at a blistering pace on drums and sonic guitar that would make any thrash metal band proud. The bass up to this point is very minimal and it could easily be just drums and guitars, the rumble of the double kick blends with the bass and foreshadows it. A consistent uproar of bludgeoning riffs are layered one after the other on the tracks, with a little more calmer section on “Sarx_Blood”. But even with that in mind, the band, for the twenty minute release, wastes very little time solidifying a dark mixture of black trash metal.

Even though my knowledge of Irish black metal is as limited as it gets, Invictus Productions carries with them an excellent array of talented bands and this is another rising name to add to their list. Though it is a small taste of what they are capable of, there is a blistering pace to music and solid songwriting but at times the songs seem to have more potential. The solos are very well placed within the music and bind the guitar to the drums to create a menacing force of dark blooded tracks.
