Scarred - Scared Award winner

by Patrick McMahon at 25 January 2021, 6:48 AM

SCARRED has their origins in Luxembourg. Established in 2003, the hard hitting group have been frequenting giant metal festivals and unleashing the real power of original riff based metal. I was unfortunately unfamiliar with this band, but I can say I have thoroughly corrected that error. I am a guitarist, and this album makes me want to skip writing a review and go warm up my amp. 10/10 Disclaimer: I understand that enjoying music is something that all people do a little bit differently. On that note, in my humble opinion, there are two options. You absolutely love this album, or you are Coo Coo For Cocoa Puffs. To each their own.

After a brief introduction, “Mirage” comes out the gate with huge presence. This track caught my ear and told me that I should have already known this band. Holy seven-minute bomb track. What really shook me to the core is the completely original way that the strings attacked in the beat. Laying it on with flawless vocals, the overall feeling of the track left me flabbergasted. That’s right, its good enough to say flabbergasted.

I thought it was possible that I overstated the value of these tracks while I was listening in passing. I really dug into its replay value and the highs and lows of the album. There is no doubt that “Merry-Go-Round” is the real deal bop. My 3-year-old daughter reinvented moshing for this track, and I completely understand why. Nothing can be questioned in the tone and immaculate finished product here. The feeling of the rhythm and energy within the track makes you jam. This belongs in a “Try not to headbang” collection.

“Petrichor” jumps in toward the end of the mix with super heavy hits and obvious guitar mastery. The track, like much of the album, moves back and forth through stages of raw metal intensity. Leads hit heavy in different segments throughout and never disappoint. All the perfect components in this beautifully written track makes it feel like it could be the SCARRED anthem. Another completely original track that could only be brought to life by a group of artists with this much seasoned talent.

In summary, SCARRED have unleashed the beast. I have trouble laying on the details with this one, but please understand that it is an EXPERIENCE. There can be no doubt in my mind that this is a masterpiece beyond comparison.
