Sensory Amusia - Breed Death Award winner

Sensory Amusia
Breed Death
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 28 July 2022, 6:02 AM

The Australian Rock scene gave many bands to the world, the most famous being AC/DC. But many names came before, even not earning the same success of the Hard Rock giants of Sydney. And writers always have some fresh stuff from the country in hands, as “Breed Death”, this album of the Perth based quartet SENSORY AMUSIA. Their musical work can be depicted as follow: a modern and brutal form of Death Metal mixed with many influences of Hardcore/Death Metal grooves as used by DYING FETUS and DECAPITATED, but with the brutal impact of Technical Death Metal familiar to acts as ABORTED (especially with the low grunts and screams used by the band). So it can be said as a combination of the old and new at the same time, in a particular form that’s full of energy. But be prepared: this album will tear your ears to pieces! The mixing and mastering engineer is the band’s vocalist, Jei Doublerice. And the result is a brutal and modern sonority, with a very good choice on the instrumental tunes, with things being aggressive, brutal and defined at the same time, improving the traumatic experience (in the good sense of the words) of hearing such songs.

Lyrically, “Breed Death” deals with a misanthropic view on human race, because through a fictional character (that could be any one of us) is exposed to the worst side of mankind, but has to deal with it to have a normal life, so it’s not a surprise for such melancholic feeling that fills the tracks. And all the songs are really amazing, especially “Yersinia Pestis” (excellent technical contrasts with a heavy and excellent work on bass guitar and drums, and be prepared for some modern Groove parts), the chaotic “Vermin” (a brutal song filled with many fast parts, and the guitars are really amazing on the hooking riffs), “Vulgar Thoughts of Carnage” (even in such brutal approach, the band shows many catchy extreme parts, and what good grunts and snarls of the vocals), “Bind Torture Kill” (a song that presents tempos that aren’t extremely fast, so the extreme and technical hooks are evident), and “Breed Death” (another song with brutal contrasts and technical catches).

Yes, SENSORY AMUSIA comes to show that they have potential to be great in the extreme Modern Metal scene; but for fans that don’t care about labels and definitions, “Breed Death” will be a good experience.
