Sequester - Missing Image

Missing Image
by Dominik "Chelu" Cheliński at 09 January 2015, 12:43 AM

Well, I can't say much about the album cover. It's "Missing Image". Normally, an album cover shows you what to expect. I absolutely had no idea what to expect. What did I receive? SEQUESTER  is a one man Canadian project, in easy, Progressive Rock style. "Hollowed" starts with nice, rock guitars together with drums and keyboard, and followed by chorus. Song is 15 min. long and during this time melody changes multiple times while interspersing instruments. Vocals aren't crazy. Ryan sings in constant, sorrowful and low tunes.

Other tracks are written in similar style. In some parts sounds gloomy (found in "Horseman's word") , in other lively (like in "First Law" and "Escaping the Mind") . This variety ist easiest to catch in "Bard" and in "The Architect".

Hearing this album in a pub, with good, dark beer in my hand would put me in a good mood. It's a compliment. Overall guitar sound is heavy, but keyboards softens whole material. Bass and drums just complements totality. It's fine. What gnaws me, is that vocals in lion's share do not changes. They're not following the melody. Maybe it is kind of intentional polyphony? I don't know. I know it gnaws me. I need to praise the production. Everything is great on this field. Nothing really comes to the fore. Melody flows without interruptions.

To sum up, SEQUESTER gave us piece of good work, which needs to be respected, especially because it's one man project, and a cool one at that. Fine rock stuff, recommended to all fans of Progressive classics. Album is constant in style, which mixes sorrow and vitality.Yes, I had good time with this music. Worth checking out.
