Siderean – Lost On Voids Horizon Award winner

Lost On Voids Horizon
by Will Travers at 22 July 2021, 10:16 PM

Bands evolve, they might change their line up, their look or even their name. But what happens with these superficial changes? Is there something a bit deeper that can begin to grow and develop as well? Some bands will see their entire style change just with the replacement of a member, the energy of a band can grow exponentially with a charismatic and passionate frontman. You may be wondering ‘what the hell is this idiot rambling on about?!’ well, today under the spotlight are Death Metal band SIDEREAN, formerly known as TELEPORT. With ten years in their previous alter egos the band released a healthy number of offerings unto the metal world before deciding to take the change, which has led to the release of their full length record “Lost On Voids Horizon”, with the artwork seemingly an oil painting, both simple and delightful.

Opening the record is “Eolith” which really erupts in the most dramatic way. Accented notes and a relentless pace really help to set the foundations for this track, but don’t let the intensity and aggression fool you, there is a delicacy to SIDEREAN, just check out the ethereal and weightless section around the six minute mark that builds and builds from the smallest guitar line, into a dense and impenetrable wall of some intricate interplay between guitarists Matija and David.

“Traversing” is quite simply what it says on the tin. A short track that moves one across the record to the next, in a very celestial and somewhat discomforting manner. The titular track, “Lost On Void’s Horizon”, once again delivers this very individual style of Death Metal that SIDEREAN are absolutely owning. There is more to the music than just a brutal and quite frankly stereotypical approach. There is a deftness to the musicianship, the way that all of the instrumental tracking intertwines with one another to create this tapestry of beautiful music that I just keep getting lost in, over and over again.

“Sidereal Evolution” is another great demonstration of the intricacies and development of the band. There are so many styles that I can pick out through the music, whether that be Black Metal, Death Metal or even at times there are shades Prog. But, simply the most exquisite part of the music is that not a single part has felt forced. The album has flowed seemingly effortlessly and maintained a light and cosmic air about it whilst also delivering those intense and gut wrenching styles that any Death Metal band worth their salt will.

Overall, I simply adore this album. There is something about it that, to me, stands it head and shoulders above a lot of Death Metal albums that I have heard recently and I will be making sure that SIDEREAN are on my list of bands to watch. There is something cooking over in Slovenia, be sure to keep an eye out.
