Signs Of The Swarm – Vital Deprivation Award winner

Signs Of The Swarm
Vital Deprivation
by Brad Pfundheller at 10 October 2019, 10:38 PM

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the five-piece Death Metal/Deathcore band SIGNS OF THE SWARM is releasing their third full length record titled “Vital Deprivation” via Unique Leader Records that is out everywhere October 11th. First formed in 2014, SIGNS OF THE SWARM has been keeping it heavy and brutal with their albums, first with “Senseless Order” and “The Disfigurement of Existence”. Even with a small lineup change they have not steered away from what they are all about and the heavy music they produce.

“Tempting Death” opens with what sounds like choir music but is then interrupted by the hard slamming vocals by David Simonich and the technicality of the instruments. In other words it is heavy right out of the gates. “Celestial Ascendance” begins with astonishing gutturals and continues with blast beats from the drummer along with impressive classic sounding Death Metal guitars. Pinch harmonics behind the double kick pedals is what stands out to me in this track. It’s just full of energy that just keeps on giving. “Lost Within Reflection” starts out slow and calming but then the aggressive vocals enter along with the drums. The buildup is just packed with suspense as it reaches the verse which at this point you are already head banging your way through the song.

“The Blood” starts with more low range vocals as the guitars and drums slowly make their way in packing a punch once it arrives. The drums are hard hitting and extremely technical you would think it’s a drum machine instead of Jimmy Pino. The instruments are phenomenal in this track. “Inevitable Affliction” shares a lot of the same technical qualities but I believe the vocals are the star in this one. The range and shear brutality is what makes this track one of the greats. “Martyr unto Dusk” is the final song on the record and starts out slow again but is met with the same heaviness that the other ten tracks also share.

Overall, SIGNS OF THE SWARM have once again proved to the scene how brutal and heavy the music they create is with “Vital Deprivation”. They remind me of RINGS OF SATURN with the technicality of the instruments and guttural slams and ranges from vocalist. Just a lot less guitar sweeps. There is no sign of slowdown from them and I am eager to hear more as they continue to progress as a band. I would recommend purchasing the album and give your ears something they won’t forget.
