Souldrinker - War is Coming Award winner

War is Coming
by Dana Lautzenheiser at 21 December 2017, 3:32 AM

SOULDRINKER released their epic battle cry “War Is Coming” courtesy of El Puerto records November 3,2017. This is the first full length album for the melodic heavy metal four-piece hailing from Germany. “War is Coming” brings heavy riffs, shredding guitar solos, aggressive rhythms, and compelling melodies proving SOULDRINKER is a mighty power metal force with which to be reckoned. Prepare for an ass kicking with ten well written tracks that go right for the jugular.

“Let the King” kicks off the album with a cavalcade of heavy drumming and then a tide of rhythm guitar sucks the listener right into the song. I was immediately impressed with the musicianship and the vocals. Boanata does not have a typical female vocal style. She brings a surprising amount of heat, grit, power, and emotion to the songs.“Souldrinker”, the title track rips with a groove metal vibe. Heavy rhythms and powerful belting vocals play masterfully together weilding a tune that will leave you craving more from SOULDRINKER.

“Promised Land” is next up with a slower pace, but keeping with the heavy power metal sound. “To the Tick” is perhaps the most interesting of the tracks. The song opens with an emotionally charged piano bit accompanied by the vocals of Iris bleeding, passion with every line. The song picks up with high energy drumming and heavy guitar riffing. The part of the chorus where she sings “For the kill” in a powerful, harmonious, swell really grabbed my ear. I found myself repeating the song just to hear that part of the melody again. The song surges brilliantly with a fist pumping force.

“Take my pain” is a compelling and relatable metal song about overcoming the tribulations of life. “Like Rain” is another standout track. The melody is epic and paints a mystical landscape for the listener. “Final Stand” commences the album with one last powerful blow. Souldrinker finishes the album strong with this anthemic track. SOULDRINKER has released a well written, well produced album. “War is Coming” will have the metal warriors in arms flocking to see them as I'm sure they deliver a hell of a live show if this album is any indication.
