Soulgrind - Elixir Mystica (CD)

Elixir Mystica

The Finish SOULGRIND are releasing their fourth album named ELIXIR MYSTICA a well inspired album with great potentials.
ELIXIR MYSTICA should be considered as a highly experimental album of which the outcome is if not great, very good. The band seems to combine quite a few kinds of metal such as Doom,Death,Black accompanied by beautiful and haunted melodies and that enables ELIXIR MYSTICA to be a full of energy and inspiration album. Each of the songs have their own character, some are in midtempo and melodic and some aggressive and fast (don't you guys imagine the Mayhem-kind of speed). One thing though that kinda messes the picture for me is the female vocals which tend to be VERY monotonous throughout the album without showing anything special but a normal voice. I mean ok…Miss Whispering Lilith keeps the same tone through out the whole friggin album if you separate some small parts that show that she has the capability of creating a good voice.

The album was mastered at Finnvox studios by Mika Jussila (Children Of Bodom, Sentenced, Stratovarius, Amorphis and more) so as you can imagine the production is very good (else i wouldn't get in the trouble to write all these bands as an example).
Generally speaking ELIXIR MYSTICA is a very good and somehow unique album showing that inspiration is not something that just dries out. BUT they should really, REALLY pay attention to their female vocals which kinda does harm to their music.
