Storm – Invincible

by Dave "That Metal Guy" Campbell at 26 September 2022, 11:11 AM

From Bandcamp, “Norwegian Metalcore act STORM proves that talent has no age and delivers a huge debut EP packed with brutal riffs, roaring vocals, twists, and hooks that captures the listeners from the very first second! Behind the stage name STORM is Leo Davadi Sundli, who despite his young age of 13 already has managed to secure a record deal with the prestigious Indie Recordings. His debut EP contains four short songs.

“Beautiful Pain” is the first. It’s a fairly raucous sound with a good deal going on in the background. The vocals are about what you would expect from a male teenager, high in the registry, harmonic at times, and his harsh utterings are livid. The sound is somewhat catchy and his melodies are accessible. “Break Yourself” uses his harsh vocals with eerie background elements and heavy, Djent rhythms. He has the darker side of the genre down pat. But the clean vocal sections are somewhat predictable. He does have the background pretty full, which can be an amateur mistake.

“Invincible” has some electronic sound and the clean vocals are almost done with a rapped cadence at first. It’s a different sound, especially with only a few harsh vocals. Instead, he keys on the melodies. The breakdown has wonderfully heavy sounds. The short “King” closes the album, beginning with funky electronica. The song is fast moving and intense. Overall, this youngster is pretty talented, making good music that is both melodious and raging. He successfully fills the background as well, with all sorts of secondary songs, and avoids the pitfalls of a first effort that sounds too thin, and too predictable. Keep an eye on this young man and his band, please.
