Tantivy - Eyes In the Night

Eyes In the Night
by Jordan Rogers at 17 February 2021, 11:52 PM

Today we are going to be reviewing the debut album from the duo of Adam Geurink and Joe Zimick. TANTIVY has lined up 20 minutes of music for us here with 5 distinct tracks. Playing in the heavy metal genre one would expect to hear some fast paced blazing guitar with bellowing drums in the background, and this album surely delivers on those fronts. EYES IN THE NIGHT is a very interesting album and is a great depiction of what this group could do in the future. So without any further details here, let us get into the song list.

“I Am the Wolf” brings us in with a very fast and heavy kick off! Banging your head will be absolutely no problem during this song as it holds the fast heavy pace we are led in with throughout its entirety. The guitar wailing with talent and precision, the drums complimenting in the background, and the powerful vocals are enough to bring you into the album and leave you wanting more, which I feel is exactly what the first song should do, bring out the talent and showcase you exactly what could be in store for you throughout the rest of the album.

Up next we have “Cut ‘Em Loose”. Now this song holds a little bit more of a mellow tone, but don’t let this description fool you, there is still plenty of heavy thrashing to be heard within. A meshing of two sounds that is done ever so effortlessly will have you wondering why more people don’t mesh them. TANTIVY really showcases a lot of musical understanding in this song as they are able to play with the tones so effortlessly. It is really a rollercoaster of sounds that will have you getting back in line for another ride.

After you get off the rollercoaster of the last song you will find yourself at “Dagger”. Here you will be reigned in by the sounds of wailing guitar riffs and pounding drums in the background to match. Once the vocals start things take a slight step back for a second and give you the nice little moment of peace before blowing your mind with metal. So many unique sounds throughout this song will have you listening to it multiple times just to figure out what the hell is going on, but in the greatest of ways!

Now that leaves our album with two more songs on it I will leave you with to form your own opinion on. This album should be added to your list if you are into heavy metal, I mean it’s only 20 minutes, so what do you got to lose by listening to it?
