"Inner Distortions" is the debut album of TEARDOWN, a band that has been around for quite a long time in the Finnish Gothic Metal scene but never released a full-length studio album, only a couple of demos.
The sound is indeed very atmospheric as described by the band themselves. Sultry guitars and keyboard melodies intertwine. Katja Pieksämäki delivers a very special vocal performance, sweet yet powerful and sometimes even a little harsh, something like Anna Murphy from ELUVEITIE. Another band that comes to mind is DRAMMAGOTHICA (Gothic Metal, Italy).
The album is a mix of gloomy dark moments and a harmonious gothic enchantment due to the keyboards and symphonic interludes. The whole thing is only about 50 minutes, and the tracks aren't annoyingly long as one would expect from a Doom / Gothic album. I personally wouldn't describe it as doom metal anyway. It's in fact pure atmospheric and symphonic Gothic Metal.
Tracks like "Horns" and "Fire In Her Eyes" are very interesting due to the vocal versatility and melodic catchiness as well as the huge atmosphere and emotion. Other tracks are not less appealing though.
A recommended album if you're into female vocals, Gothic Metal, and gloomy ambiences.
