Thalamus - Subterfuge

by Vasilis Odontidis at 21 November 2011, 8:40 PM

Subterfuge” is the second album from the Swedish band THALAMUS. THALAMUS plays 70s Hard Rock / classic Rock. On the first listening session the band reminded me of SPIRITUAL BEGGARS and BLACK STONE CHERRY that I like a lot due the Hammond organ and Bergendahl’s voice.

Somehow I believe that the album begins in a strange way. To me the first three songs worked more as fillers to the fourth one “Blind” which is also the single of the band but mostly a great song. Then, the album flows normally with either fast songs like “Still Dancing on my Grave” or Rock ballads like “Through the fields”.

In general the album has a nice production, which helps the band having that 70’s feeling. The musicianship is great and I enjoyed the use of Hammond throughout the whole album. Bergendahl’s voice is also great and has the right feeling to it. “Subterfuge” is a fine album, but fails to achieve something extraordinary and offering something really fresh and interesting. However, if 70s Rock is your way of life this album could be a nice addition to your album collection.
