The Dillinger Escape Plan - One Of Us Is The Killer Award winner

The Dillinger Escape Plan
One Of Us Is The Killer

Mathcore ohhh wooo, haven't ever reviewed bands in this hated genre, but like everybody knows, there is first time for everything. In this case I requested to review THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN (btw: great name) and you probably ask yourself why. it’s easy by mistake, I was invited to their show a year ago in my hometown however I didn’t go to the event but I did listen to some of their songs online and I have to hand it out to that these guys are more than meets the eye. THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, at least from what I heard, are a combination of Extreme Metal with Mathcore, so we can call it Extreme Core.

"One Of Us Is The Killer", the band's new album, starts with the duo songs of “Prancer" and "When I Lost My Bet". Both fits to my invented Extrem Core. THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN attack in all fronts with killer murderous riffs and fast drumming spiced with changing vocal octaves or accurately, screaming octaves.

The first song that goes common Mathcore way is “One of Us Is the Killer” that starts with a classic Rock intro and mellow vocals that change to a classic Mathcore song, song quality is debatable.

The entire album floats in between the Extreme metal to Mathcore and some songs that combine both of them ,in this case "Nothing's Funny" is the great example. There is even an instrumental "CH 375 268 277 ARS", that one is brutal as well.

Frankly the first time I listened to the album, I got an headache. However it seems that THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN will be happy to hear that, it means that they did a good job, the album is a brutal onslaught massacre of Extreme Metal with Mathcore along with some progressive parts, even if the band won't admit it. So did I like it ? Yes, will you like it? Probably Yes.
