The End – Age of Apocalypse Award winner

The End
Age of Apocalypse
by Aiden Baker at 18 March 2017, 2:13 PM

THE END is a Death Metal band from Altamonte Springs, Florida. Age of apocalypse was released on the 23rd of September 2016 and is a follow up EP to the bands demo released in January of the same year. “Age of Apocalypse” is the first track and clear talent is shown from the start, you can tell this trio is truly working in harmony. Guitars vocals and drums all work together perfectly to create a fast fearsome track. The screams are memorable (which is more than I can say for some albums) and the guitar riff is well thought out and very well played, I was truly taken aback by how well this song was performed.

Crawling Back To Life “Does not hold back, the guitar and drums race in as if competing with each other to then be met by a tortured vocal screech. Once again I must stress how well this band plays together especially for one only formed in 2015! The only thing I disliked about the song was the short length at a measly 2 minutes 39 seconds I was left simply wanting more. So far this band is giving me some pretty good material to headbang to and let’s be honest that’s what we all want.

With “Inhale The Plague” I’m beginning to become aware how catchy the names of these songs actually are, the delivery of the lines and the sheer brutality infused with them, makes them stick around in your head long enough to enter muscle memory. I feel that this song would have been aided by a slower pace towards the middle to make the heavier parts sound bigger and pop out more. I’m not saying this is a bad track, far from it, however, I feel that the song would benefit from this and that I would be doing the band a disservice if I did not mention it.

Once again I’m hit by the catchiness of “Silent Screams Of Death”, seriously how do these guys do it? The opening sequence is a superb and further consolidates the fact that this bands drummer is not someone to dismiss! He truly does not miss a beat. If I need to open the gates of hell THE END has me covered.

In summary I really think this band will shine on a full-length album, and I would go as far as to say that this EP barley scratches the surface of their talent. With lengthier songs I may have even given perfect ratings. I eagerly wait to see what THE END has to offer in the future and I for one will be purchasing their new material when it releases. This EP is also mixed and mastered beautifully an overall pleasure to listen to.
