THE FLAYING are back after five years with their new release,
‘’Angry, Undead’’. They may have taken their time to get a new album done but all in all, the time was well worth it and we might already have an Album of the Year on our hands. This album benefits from the masterful production job from
The Grid, owned and operated by
Chris Donaldson of
CRYPTOPSY in the east end of Montreal.
Chris Donaldson might be the best Metal producer out there, definitely one of the best producers in all of North America. He actually does appear on this release and adds his particular touch on the crushing
‘’Elegy of Emptiness’’. The saying goes, a producer will push you to your very limits, he wants the best of out you and this is a fine example of an awesome production that brings this band to another level.
THE FLAYING is part of this new wave of bands out of the Belle Province that are making an immediate impact on the ever growing Metal Scene. This is the new generation of bands ready to make their mark out of the Province and in all of North America. Given the solid chance to open from American bands, I am pretty sure this band could have unrivaled success. They could be like bands like
BEYOND CREATION, AUGURY, KATAKLYSM and the criminally underrated
AETERNAM. Angry is a solid word to describe their music! The album title describes the whole vibe you get when you listen to it that’s for sure. Their music is uncompromising; they play like they have a chip of their shoulder. Sometimes it can be really counter-productive but not in this case, they had something to prove and they sure did deliver on all fronts! They really killed it!
I don’t know what’s with Quebec and great quality Technical Death Metal but we have another winner on our hands. Most songs are a bit interchangeable but I felt each one had their personal touch. Each song means something and I did enjoy having an interlude in the middle of the album, it really felt needed. I needed to catch my breath because it was some pretty relentless blast beast and technical wizardry. I was glad to have a bit of a break before their unleashed some more crushing songs. I don’t have a favorite song, that’s like saying with child is your favorite! To each his own, they really hit a home run with this album and I wish them unrivaled success in the coming future.
