The Flesh - Dweller

THE FLESH is a hardcore/punk/death metal band based out of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It features ex members of the bands HERDER, BLOOD DIAMOND and FEAST. The EP entitled “Dweller” was released back on June 1^st 2018 and was recorded/mixed by Sven Post. “Tot in Den Treure” has some great groovy bass and a nice tongue-lashing gritty guitar riff. The best to way to describe the intro is a dirtier ISIS followed by pure hardcore thrash that is reminiscent of DISFEAR. The vocals have a tinge of black metal in them but they are purely hardcore in essence. The song has some interesting melodies blended in as well.

“Black Rain” has a SLAYER vibe to it in the opening minute and it transitions into some great rhythmic sections and is sure to be a good crowd-pleaser. “Siren’s Call” does not have the same formula, it goes straight into the money riff and never loses grip. Some other strong tracks here include “Salax” which follows a more chaotic sound and has a much darker theme than the rest of the songs and the strongly melodic “A Knife To The Conformist” which should appeal to fans of AT THE GATES or AS I LAY DYING. Overall, I think fans of thrash, hardcore and crust will have something to enjoy here. Even if the album has a great deal of intensity, it uses slower passages and melodies to keep everything together. The vocals have pretty the same effects in them on all the tracks but they also go hand in hand with the music.
