The Harps - Love Strikes Doves

Love Strikes Doves

THE HARPS album “Love Strikes Doves” features dazzling musical talents sure to take you on a bluesy metal adventure.  Lead Singer and creator Andry Lagiou showcases her amazing vocal talents and harmonies hitting those ever so high sopranos with apparent ease and backed by a myriad of musical instruments ranging from sultry basslines, signature blues keys and even jazzy flute solos.  The album was released independently in 2017.

The first track “Lovecircle” is reminiscent of an ancient folk hymn with melancholy guitars and string sections dancing alongside lulling melodies of the serene vocal lines.  The lyrics speak metaphorically but the power of love is expressed in such a manner to heal the wounds and deceptions which one acquires by surviving the tribulations of life.  It’s a very serene song and starts things off very sweetly if I say so myself.

My favorite track on the album is “Pink Palm Tree” which has a jazzy and exotic vibe.  Catchy guitar riffs and vocal harmonies render the listener entranced in a hypnotic maelstrom of sonic exhilaration.  Being a guitarist myself I appreciate the technical prowess and dazzling display of lead work by Christoforos Krokidis.  The solo really demonstrates the insane amount of skill in THE HARPS lineup and makes you feel as if you’re wandering through the desert sands of the Sahara and happen upon an Oasis of shred guitar.

“Red Line '' is an upbeat tune that showcases the more metal aspect of the band.  The intro comes in slowly, however, setting an ominous tone accented by mysterious sounding keys.  A killer guitar riff kicks things off while Andry wastes no time belting her incredible vocals.  At times she sounds similar to King Diamond in her runs which really brings the energy level up another notch.  She also ends the track with a super high pitched Halford scream which any other vocalist would be hard pressed to duplicate.

“Bloody Sun” is a groovy blues track and features laid back and progressive drumbeats.  A jazzy flute solo makes an appearance and is a refreshing and unexpected change of pace for this album.  Some of my favorite bass lines are showcased in this song which really demonstrate Mike Lepond’s theory knowledge.  His note selection keeps things grooving along nicely and provides an embellished background yet provides ample space for the other instruments to shine.  The mark of an excellent bassist in my opinion.

“Love Strikes Doves” is a gem of the blues metal genre, and any fan of excellent clean singing vocalists and all-around fantastic musicians would find much to appreciate in the album.
