The Nova Hawks – Redemption

The Nova Hawks
by Sarah Tijan at 07 April 2021, 8:06 AM

Listening to THE NOVA HAWKS, you feel as if you are being transported out of your body and into their journey of discovery. Unknown of where you are going, where you have been and where you are currently, but calm and content, wanting to be a part of it, wanting to be aware that you are not alone. The journey and experiences are not excepted, but necessary and needed to happen to create who you are today, as a person, as a soul?

"Redemption" is the first release for Heather and Rex on Frontiers Records, leading with the track "Voodoo" an ode to the New Orleans Jazz era, a song that you could lose yourself in, get lost, and come out a different person all together. "Redemption" proves that you can blend styles and you’d never question the feelings or emotions that those sounds, melodies or lyrics provoke and bring to a head. The hard-hitting lyrics give you reason to stop and think, the melodies a beat to ponder altogether well-built song to get lost to, whether it be sitting outside in the calm spring weather, or listening in the comfort of your home, the lyrics and guitar both awaken you and sooth you at the same time.

"Pills" goes the opposite direction proving that eerie unknowing and classical sound go well together with current production standards, creating a new standard for Blues-fueled Rock that we haven’t heard before. Meanwhile, "Greed or Glory" takes you on a ride between the Blues and classic Country with the slide guitar taking center stage, bringing out the talent and vocals of both Heather and Rex, proving they are a duo not to be messed with. It is clear they both have talent in their own right, working together makes it stronger.

"Love Games" completes the album, with a classic sound you would have heard back in the 50’s, just in an updated feel. Its raw and honest, begging you to question its legitimacy, all while pushing all other doubts away. Each track on this album could stand alone, put together as it is, THE NOVA HAWKS released a strong debut album with "Redemption" creating an awareness of what they are capable of, while leaving room to grow and evolve as artists.
