One more album that is being released through Spinefarm Records and I am ready to face any melodic piece of crap invades my privacy (RATT rulez). Upon pushing the play button I am having to face THE MACHETE's Thrash/Death Metal attack and I just sit trying to find out why do they belong to Spinefarm and not its more extreme subdivision Spikefarm.
The Finnish (what else could they be?) metallers were formed in 2003 and debuted with their 2004 demo, which secured them a contract with Finland's premier Metal label Spinefarm Records. There, the band released its debut album Regression (2005) and now, two years later they release their second full-length album through the same label.
THE MACHETE's sophomore effort is a mix between melodic Thrash/Death Metal with some slight Post/Sludge elements that resemble to bands like MASTODON and ISIS. The album's raw production, which is in fact pretty good, is one of the album's strongest weapons. The heavy, low tuned guitars and the incredible drumming of Saikkonen are some more things that make Untrue even more interesting and will make it spin in your CD player for some time, making the band sound better and better with every listening session.
As you can see, THE MACHETE are not so ordinary band and you will have to listen to Untrue several times before discovering many things in the music it contains. It is not the album I will love or the album that will offer something groundbreaking to you, but it is surely the one that you will enjoy until its last second.
