Hmmm, Belgian underground label Shiver Records strikes for one more time, and this time the brutality is slightly reduced in favor of melody. Do not fear my friends, Shiver would never release an album that it would be too soft to send shivers down your spine. It is just that Grind and Death Metal need some melody from time to time in order to avoid mediocrity and explore new grounds. The fact is that the melodic Death Metal grounds have been already explored and that is a real trap of mediocrity!
Belgian deathsters THE SEVENTH (really, what seventh?) were formed back in 1998, but after struggling with numerous line up changes, they managed to reach their current form only in 2004. That's when the band managed to get ready and release its first long awaited EP Only Blackness Radiates (2005). After their self released EP, the band managed to sign a contract with Shiver and unleashed its debut full-length album earlier this year.
What does Cursed Earth Wasteland have to offer to the Metal scene? Nothing important allow me to say. This album is consisted of ten common compositions full of harsh vocals, heavy riffing and melodic breaks, and an intro that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the album. The production is also one of the negative stuff in Cursed Earth Wasteland, since the sound is raw and not so clean in order to make the music much more 'listenable'.
Not a bad work, but surely a work that could be much better. The only word that can characterize this album is typical, and I believe that only die hard fans of melodic harsh Death Metal will be attracted by it.
