THIS MISERY GARDEN is a dark Rock / Metal band from Geneva, Switzerland. It was founded in 2005, released its first album,
“Another Great Day on Earth”, in 2009.
“Cornerstone”, via
Season Of Mist, comes in their next endeavour through the grey.
“Human E.T” pays tribute and welcome to the listener with a riffery signalling of
TOOL.
“Holy Clutch” sharpened its blade with heavier riffing played, taking down the chops and pops of Nu Metal
GODSMACK. On the other hand, I could notice the melodic edge within the crushing guitaring along with slight progression on the side. I especially liked
“Rope” turning up as melodic, crazy, progressive but bitingly fierce, slapping with a melodic chorus, sharing a minor similarity to
DEFTONES. “Siamese Again”, the ballad next in line, shaped up as an emotional moment, oozed up on melodic singing and softer sounds.
Steve, the vocalist, reminded me many vocalists for example of
DEFTONES, STAIND, GODSMACK, CREED and
ALTER BRIDGE.
“Angry Child” appeared on the side of Doom Metal, out there in the abyss, presenting tight rhythm and fine riffing.
“Death Head Colors” is a diverse little smacker, where calmness mixed with kick-ass powerful riffs and assorted rhythm section, placidness meets aggressiveness in the vocal line as well. Sharing a similarity to the classic era of
KATATONIA is within
“Warning Zone”, displaying the will of down under, plenty of darkness and uncertainty.
“Swallowing the Monster” and
“Flower Eye Tree”, the two bonus features, are very good, melodic, doomy, heavy as hell, a bit obscure as
KORN, pretty good.
THIS MISERY GARDEN is blend of melancholy, hope, anger and serenity, clear sound but virtually the overall feel of ease. I really enjoyed their diversity, some of it really caught me, and some didn’t, but largely, I see great future for these guys.
