Tonight We Stand - Redemption

Tonight We Stand
by Sooraj Ram at 02 August 2017, 7:18 AM

The Italian Metal Scene is rather underappreciated; as I don't see many Italian bands rise fame even if they have enormous talent. The reason for this is the lack of accessibility. However, we now live in a generation where music is often plagiarised and leaked before its original release, henceforth we do have necessary media to explore but the lack of effort makes it harder for such bands to get attention…and yet, we do have one such band to discuss for today.

Melodic Metalcore is one of the most sought after genre of music for fans as well as bands - as people like the sound and it is less complex compared to other genres. So, today we have an Italian Melodic Metalcore band TONIGHT WE STAND.

Formed in Jan 2016 the band kept themselves busy by writing their debut EP entitled “Redemption” which was consequently released in the same year. The album itself showcases 4 tracks, two of which being smaller ones, however, it is not to be mistaken as a short effort; the album showcases their stylistic background perfectly by utilizing every second they have.

First off, their sound is somewhat similar to your typical Melodic Metalcore bands such as PARKWAY DRIVE, I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN etc. However, me being a mere explorer of this genre, when I listened to the longer tracks like “Invisible Enemies” and “Dear Downfall” CURSED BY THE FALLEN popped into my mind. CBTF is yet another Melodic Metalcore band based out of Austria, and if I’m not mistaken, both of them have similar song structures and styles. Furthermore both of their music videos match in terms of presentation and story.

The album kicks off with a harmonic intro, which sets up the stage for the upcoming tracks. After the short intro the band takes centre stage as they perform their first major song from the album entitled “Invisible Enemies”. Even though the song is energetic and fast-paced, the major drawback is on the originality and complexity. However, one cannot expect for some complex and unique songs to be played by a newly formed band – and TONIGHT WE STAND nonetheless portray their passion for music. The next song to hit the playlist is Dear Downfall, which in my opinion stands in a relative position with the last track. There may be some flaws in the vocals, as they lack a balance between screams and cleans, but the song is nonetheless very catchy.

Overall, this album is a hit or miss for me. With just 4 tracks on the tracklist it is really hard to conclude whether the album is a masterpiece or trash. Based on these 4 tracks all I have is a mixed feeling, as the songs lack originality but are catchy and euphonic. That being said I am looking forward to their next release and hoping for a longer setlist with a slightly more original sound.
