Too Pure To Die - Confess (CD)

Too Pure To Die
Confess
by Yiannis Dafopoulos at 12 February 2009, 11:37 AM

This is the second time I come across TOO PURE TO DIE. My first encounter with the band was kind of strange since I had to review a not so worth mentioning - in my humble opinion - re-release. Now that I have the chance to listen to a normal album I think I will be able to have a more complete opinion on the band's music. I read some interesting stuff in their bio, but some that were not that pleasant, too.

The band is based in Des Moines, Iowa, the SLIPKNOT country as they like to call it. This is the band's sophomore full-length effort (their first through Trustkill if we forget about the re-release) and as the band's frontman states, the material is much heavier than before. They have managed to share the stage with acts like BURY YOUR DEAD (the not so pleasant stuff I was talking about), ALL THAT REMAINS, THE ACACIA STRAIN and many more.

The Iowa based act tries to mix many successful styles together to create something that I could describe only as commercial. Trying to put HATEBREED, MACHINE HEAD, PANTERA in the same bag and try to stuff the bag with some extra melody will surely make a huge hole. It's a pity for your beautiful bag…

A well known Metal magazine said that if someone likes Metalcore loaded with thick, Southern grooves then he's gonna like TOO PURE TO DIE. The thing this magazine didn't tell is that metalhead's have stopped being tricked by catchy and modern bands with crystal clear productions. TOO PURE TO DIE is a pretty decent band, but its music is nothing that I hear for the first time. I would prefer to listen to MACHINE HEAD or THROWDOWN for example. I guess that such bands are only for the people who are into this kind of music and don't really care about an album having a good quality.
