TORMENTED has been stirring up a bit of the Death Metal scene as of late, bringing with it unhealthy does of true Death Metal – hailing from the massively distorted gritty and actually Death oriented skool of old. TORMENTED also seems to bring blood with “Death Awaits” - A lot of blood. In fact, on this album is so blood drenched that you’ll probably need to take a shower just in hopes that it won’t stain your inner ears.
To say “Death Awaits” was your typical Death Metal fare would be detrimental to my unpaid career as a writer. If you’ve heard any of TORMENTED’s previous offerings, “Rotten Death” or the “Graveyard Lust” EP, you’ll know the band is one dedicated to the ‘old skool’ of Death Metal (as I’ve already stated). This means you’ll be getting real blood-drenched Death-themed set of tracks, instead of something that only follows the style. Sound-wise you should be expecting some kind of blasphemous cross between CELTIC FROST and CANNIBAL CORPSE – if that isn’t hard enough to imagine.
The main carrying point for this album is front man Dread’s outrageous devotion to his vocals. There isn’t one second that you don’t think that this guy is a hundred percent serious about what he is singing about. His attitude bypasses the rather been-there-heard-that music, as you can expect with anything that follows old styles, and carries it to a unique level. Sadly, “Death Awaits” does suffer slightly in its beginning tracks. Even with Dread’s vocal style, the beginning set simply begins to feel boring a few songs in, almost forgettable at times. However, stand out tracks like "Into The Crypts Of Death" can keep you coming back for more with classic Death metal character and blood fueled insanity.
