Torn Between Two Worlds — As If We Never Existed

Torn Between Two Worlds
As If We Never Existed
by Shea Higgerson at 22 June 2022, 5:47 AM

Swedish duo TORN BETWEEN TWO WORLDS comes through with a beautiful, symphonic rock EP “As If We Never Existed.” One fact that is undeniable from the moment the first song “The Beauty of Deception” plays is that vocalist Sarah Jezebel Deva has an incredibly lovely voice. It’s very enchanting and entrancing. Her voice can be quite operatic at times. It’s got that kind of haunting quality that AMY LEE’s voice has without being the exact same.

“Transparent” has that kind of epic sound at the beginning that reminds me of the soundtrack to “Pirates of the Caribbean.” That was exactly my first thought — some grand adventure or quest. It’s a really beautiful song. This is quite an impressive album for being put together by one musician and one vocalist. Having only two people to do it all is not an easy task, although not impossible, but with the right talent it can work. These two seem to be onto something. It’s not quite my style of music, but I cannot deny the talent here.

The final song on the EP is a cover of ADELE’s mega-famous song “Hello,” which is a HUGE undertaking. But when I tell you Deva has the voice for it, I’m not lying. She’s definitely got some powerful vocals. I wish there hadn’t been so many effects on her voice in the production at points in the chorus, because I think it would have sounded fine without them and would have sounded more emotional. I appreciated the rock spin on this already classic pop tune.
