Most of us know a couple of gigantic bands from Brazil (like Angra for example), however little is known concerning the country's underground scene. I don't know why but truth is that the last couple of years I can't recall more thAn 2 - 3 bands sending me their material from this country. Maybe it has something to do with the distance between Brazil and Europe? No mater what after listening to the demo of Triarchy I've decided to get more into the Brazilian scene. Triarchy was formed back in 2001 in the town of Fortaleza. Broken Dreams is actually their debut demo, released in April 2005. Apart from a couple of live shows the band was inactive for a long time because of lineup changes (hey, this sounds Greek enough!). Broken Dreams contains two songs, quite lengthy (total running time of approximately 11 minutes) and is best described as Atmospheric Metal. There are some resemblances with early Theater Of Tragedy (of course) mostly because of the use of the known melodic female / brutal male duo vocal lines. Pablo Castelar is no big deal, typical growler if you ask me, but Juliana Hernandes has a deep and quite metallic voice. Both songs are well balanced between atmospheric and metal. There are no guitar solos but at least the guitars deliver some very heavy riffs. Special mentioning must be done for the exceptional production! The sound is too flawless to be considered a demo recording. Fans of Atmospheric Metal must check them out. I'll be expecting their full length album soon!
