UDO - Leatherhead

UDO
Leatherhead
by Erika Wallberg at 14 April 2011, 3:55 AM

What you always can count on from UDO is solid, steady, heavy, stomping, catchy Metal music. It’s nice and comfortable to buy a new UDO record because you can be sure to get a really decent piece of music. For the last couple of years everything has been chewing on in the same pace and rhythm with “Mission No X”, “Mastercutor” and “Dominator”. In one way it’s nice to know that some bands never change, in the other, if it gets too much of the same it will be boring. UDO is no where near boring yet though. This “Leatherhead” EP gives a small taste of what we can expect from the forthcoming “Rev-Raptor” album.

The title track is Heavy stomping piece with a traditional UDO chorus line. The track continues in the same style as always but the production is fat. Not as processed as RAMMSTEIN but there are elements from them. Not as prominent of course but this track has a really modern sound. It might work, I myself prefer a little lighter production. The second track from “Rev-Raptor”, “Rock’n’Roll Soldiers” is a really Rock oozing tune, like ACCEPT’s “I’m A Rebel” or “Burning”. This actually differs quite a lot from the steady and solid sound of UDO’s latest albums. If the “Leatherhead” EP can show this variety, I’m really curious about what the rest of the album will sound like.

The other two audio’s on the EP, “Run!” and “Free Or Rebellion”, previously only available on “Thundervision” are two very good songs as well, “Run!” has that same mellow but still anxiety loaded feeling as “Azrael” while the latter one is more in the traditional UDO sound. Included on the album is video’s for “Leatherhead” and “Jingleballs”. So this is a neat little package for a Metal Head and a really good preview of what’s to come on “Rev-Raptor”.
