U.D.O. - Metallized (CD)

by Yiannis Zervos at 31 December 2007, 7:34 PM

Once in a while you must wonder what is like to be 55 years old and have 30 long years in Heavy Metal scene and literally become a legend in it. Udo Dirkschneider knows what I am talking about: the infamous singer of ACCEPT that did build the foundation for Heavy Metal music in Europe, has marked with his unique voice Metal in general. After Dirkschneider's (first) separation with ACCEPT, in 1987, U.D.O. was born and they still offer pure Metal music to the world. 20 years to the day from their first album, Animal House (1987), U.D.O. challenged their fans to vote 12 songs to be included in Metallized, as a Best-Of album.
U.D.O. picked up where ACCEPT's Russian Roulette left off in 1986, with pure Heavy Metal sound that smashes balls and crashes bones. Animal House offers They Want War, In The Darkness and the self titled Animal House on Metallized track list. The '90s kicked in with different look and sound for U.D.O. with Faceless World, that had keyboard sounds and the ex-ACCEPT drummer Stefan Kauffman on the production, Faceless World proved to be the most successful album for Dirkschneider and his crew and Heart Of Gold proves that.

12 Metal songs from the best in the business plus two unreleased songs Shadow Maker and Terror In Paradise along with a surprise acoustic version of ACCEPT's classic Balls To The Wall. If you want my opinion, I like this kind of classic songs transformations, it proves that a Heavy Metal song is not only good because of the distorted guitars and heavy drumming. The lyrics and melody matter and in final analysis it is nice to have an open mind as far as music goes.
Bullet And The Bomb - performed live in St. Petersburg (formerly known as Leningrad) - wrap up Metallized, which comes with a rich booklet of pictures from U.D.O.'s career.

Now, if you want to pay your tribute to U.D.O.'s contribution to Heavy Metal music go out and get Metallized, nevertheless it is a nice Christmas gift for your younger metal friends.
