Unanimated - In The Light Of Darkness (CD)

Unanimated
In The Light Of Darkness
by Yiannis Dafopoulos at 01 May 2009, 5:19 PM

These guys are no rookies in the Metal scene since they carry names like DISMEMBER, MURDER SQUAD, KRUX, NIFELHEIM and many more on their backs. So what do we have here? Just a bunch of talented musicians having fun, one more boring project? I don't think so…

This band - for my surprise - exists since 1988. Pretty old act, don't you think? They have already released some full-length albums with their last one being released back in 1995. They took a break for more than 10 years and decided to return with a brand new album through Regain Records. I haven't had the chance to hear any older stuff by them but if they sound like In The Light of Darkness I will be more than glad to check them out!

After this long hiatus, UNANIMATED were expected to release a strong and solid album that would satisfy their fans. Waiting for so many years just makes your hunger worse! So they did, with In The Light Of Darkness being a magnificent sample of Swedish melodic Black/Death Metal. Drawing influences from bands like DISSECTION, HYPOCRISY and the rest of the melodic Black/Death elite, these guys present a delicious approximately 45-minute album full of killer leads, raw power and great energy. The pretty well worked guitars and the kickass rhythm section are the main successful ingredients in this poisonous recipe and all these are completed by Jansson's bestial vocals.

Working with Tore Stjerna at the famous Necromorbus Studio also helped the band achieve a raw, yet clean enough sound, something that gives the sound this grim atmosphere such music needs. All in all, this album is a great buying option for all fans of melodic brutality (not in the modern meaning of this term). I myself will be listening to it for a long time to come.
