Underxted – Carnage

Underxted
Carnage
by Dave "That Metal Guy" Campbell at 23 May 2023, 8:25 AM

From Bandcamp, “With two members, trying to revolt against the daily life routine, expressing their frustration through lessons recorded into tracks. Some may change and abandon their passions by bending to the overruling powers over us. UNDERXTED themselves say, “We stride with power, trying to free as many locked souls from the doomed!” The album has six songs. “STENCH!” is the first. The opening tones are fast-moving…almost Punk-like, and the vocals have an Industrial edge to their harshness. There is a slow and brutal breakdown at one point before the sound returns.

“Saviors” features clean guitars, and melancholy clean vocals…the vocalist is talking about how his wife left him, and how he lays in bed. The mood is very somber. He lashes out, “come back to me” in his whiskey stupor. “DECONSTUCTION” is much shorter and begins with some electronic elements before the crunchy riff comes busting through. Again, the music has a definite Punk tinge to it, and the guitars are laden with effects. “Multi-Kill” is deep and powerful in scope, with a running drum line that won’t quit, and other chaotic elements. It eventually settles into a groove of sorts with some lead breaks that are all over the place.

“Old N0.7” has a Southern Rock tinge to it, with clean vocals. The main riff is bossy, and the backing effects are eerie, but the song is so short, it’s over before you know it. “DESCRETION OF HATE” closes the short, six-song EP. It moves slowly and more cautiously. The vocals are harsh and aggressive, and the music is equally as hateful. He swears a little, and in these moments, I am reminded of the Danish band VOLBEAT. Overall, it was a bit hard to gain a sense of what this band was all about through only six songs, however, I think I got the gist of it. Their “fuck you” attitude comes through pretty strong, and although the tracks were varied and defy any conventional standards, their confidence came through as well.
