Uritup - Overcome

by Tuoksu Holopainen at 18 January 2013, 1:05 AM

URITUP is an undefined name for a German Alternative Rock band that you probably have never heard of. I somehow found myself listening to their second album "Overcome".Although their musical style has nothing to do with my personal taste, I eventually ended up liking some tracks.

This material certainly cannot be labeled as Metal music. It actually has some sort of balance between soft moments and heavier moments, both vocally and instrumentally. The first three tracks "Greed", "Watchman" and"December" are quite good, there's nothing special about them though. However, it’s the fourth track "Labyrinth Chamber" that really caught my ear. It is quite different from the rest and also catchier. It has the best guitar parts in the whole album, especially the solo. The last part of it has an oriental feeling to it and it's definitely what I loved about it.

The rest of the tracks are weaker than the first ones, and the whole thing starts getting boring. To me it sounded like the vocalist is singing the same stuff in the same manner all the time in an annoying way, except in "Inteloslave". Fortunately, all tracks last less than five minutes, and the album was over before I realized it how boring it was.

Well, this album is definitely not something that I would enjoy listening to; it's too Rockish for my taste.  Still, to be fair, I recommend it to Rock fans; they would really appreciate this kind of stuff.
