Us Amongst the Rest - Follow the Truth

Us Amongst the Rest
Follow the Truth

Us Amongst the Rest's debut album, "Follow the Truth", is one that I think will have no problem selling.  This band has an alternative rock style that I enjoyed. The album is very well produced. None of the band overpowers the rest and each element is clear throughout every song. The CD begins with a song entitled "Info" which is only about a minute long. It is purely background sounds and piano, no vocals.

"Fields of Fray" shows off the vocalists edgy, rough sound to listeners. It also features a guitar and drum solo during the song that really showcases another part of the band.

"Happiness is the china shop…love is the bull" are fantastic lyrics during the chorus of "Love is the Bull."  The chorus hooks the listener and really brings them in.  This is easily one of my favorite songs on the album.

With the chanting of "fire" in the background of the chorus, I think "Bring the Fire" will be a hit at live shows. I really liked the beginning of this song, it's quiet at first then rapidly comes in and almost sounds like the cd skips as the vocals "You bring the fuel and we'll start the fire" cascade.

"Follow the Truth" begins super slow, but the vocalist mixes his rough style with almost a serenade.  It isn't until about a minute and a half in, he really cuts loose.  This song features powerful guitar solos that really stick out and make the song come together.

Us Amongst the Rest is a band I can easily see going on tour with bands such as THEE DAYS GRACE or AVENGED SEVENFOLD. I think that this band has the ability to get the crowd involved and suck them into any song they play.  My only suggestion would be to hold nothing back on their songs.  Some of them I felt could have been expanded on lyric-wise, but the music behind the vocals was fantastic. However, "Follow the Truth" should have no problem being a sell-out.
